5 Ways to Show Your Wife You Love Her Through Your Health and Fitness

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church — for we are members of his body. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery — but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. – Ephesians 5:25-33

By this passage found in the Bible, which whether you’re a believer or not, is widely held as the most profoundly wisdom jam-packed books of all time, how are you doing as a husband? This isn’t to pat myself on the back or anything, but one of the MAIN reasons I train to stay fit, lean, and strong is because I want my wife to desire me more than ever. As I was reading the Bible the other morning, I said to myself “A-hah! I knew there was something right in my gut about that reason! It’s even Biblical!”

Here’s the thing, I know my wife would love me if I was a drooling, belching Homer Simpson of a male, because she’s a loyal, wonderful soul; however, what would that say about me? If I was a hands-down-my-pants Al Bundy, who longingly refers to his best days as a varsity high school football player at Polk High, that doesn’t say much about how much I love my wife when the very words from the Bible says, “In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies.”

Men, if we really loved our wives, we would love our own bodies and treat them right. I’m not saying we have to perfect, and I’m also not saying we have to be built like Brad Pitt in the movie Troy. We are each designed uniquely but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be maximizing whatever physique the Lord has given us. Some of us will naturally hold more body fat than others, some will naturally just be hollywood jacked, and others will be long and sinewy, but here are 5 things that all of us can do to prove that we love our wives through our fitness. Think of these as rights of passage with your fitness to prove to your one and only, that you love her…….because you’re showing you love yourself.

  1. Stay under 15% Bodyfat
  2. Be able to deadlift twice your bodyweight
  3. Be able to perform 20 perfect push-ups
  4. Be able to perform at least 5 perfect pull-ups
  5. Be able to look down and not have your belly stick out more than your pee-pee do.

These aren’t super difficult rights of passage here gents. For some of you, this will be quite the climb to be able to proves these 5 ways to your wife through your fitness. For others, you can already do these things, and if that’s you, great! But don’t settle, and make sure that these aren’t the only ways you’re showing your wife that you love her.

When 70% of the American population is overweight, 35% of which is obese, I know this won’t be a popular blog post. But I’m not called to be popular. I’m called to be a bold messenger of the truth.

Step it up dudes.
